Tata Group's semiconductor plant coming up in Morigaon, Jagiroad, Assam is the largest semiconductor plant in the country. On fully operational the plant is expected to have a production capacity of around 4.8 crore semiconductor chips per day. Trial runs have already started in this plant spread over about 592 acres. Advanced semiconductor packaging technologies like wire bonding, flip chip and fan-out will be used. The chips will cater to sectors like automotive, healthcare, telecommunications, and consumer electronics. According to the electronics company that is building the plant, this plant has the potential to provide 27,000 to 40,000 direct and indirect jobs. According to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, PM Modi may officially inaugurate the plant in December this year or January 2027. This will be the world's largest semiconductor assembly and test facility after the semiconductor fab. Vibration, pollution prevention measures Wild elephant herds roam the place where this plant is built. Semiconductor production requires precision at the nanometer level. Heavy steps of elephants can create so much vibration that chip assembly machines can malfunction. To protect against this, a strong 'elephant-proof' wall of green belt and roadside concrete-steel has been built around the plant. Apart from the snake rescue team, workers have also been trained to protect them from snakes. The youth of Assam who are working in other countries are taking special interest in the semiconductor plant being built in Assam. Many high-skilled young professionals have decided to leave their jobs abroad and return to Assam. Many have already been interviewed. -------------------------------------- also read this news...
