By-elections are being held today in 6 seats in four states of the country, namely West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. These include Nandigram and Rejinagar in West Bengal, Madurantakam and Dharapuram in Tamil Nadu, Thattanchavadi assembly seat in Puducherry and Nagaon Lok Sabha seat in Assam. The results of all the seats will be declared on October 9. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Aam Janta Unnayan Party (AJUP) president and MLA Humayun Kabir was taken into custody by the police from his party office in Murshidabad, Bengal. The police have not yet revealed the reason for his detention. His son Ghulam Nabi Azad is also a candidate from Rejinagar. Meanwhile, speaking to the media, Congress candidate from Nandigram, Milan Pradhan, alleged that his polling agents are being forcibly picked up, threatened and their documents are also taken away.
