Due to heavy rains in the upper reaches for the last one week, the level in Vanakbori dam reached 235 feet. Approaching the White Signal, 7 lakh cusecs of water was released into the Mahi river in three phases on Saturday, due to which the level reached 30 feet on the bridge of the Mahi river in Vasad village of Anand taluka. Water had overflowed on a road near Vehrakhadi. On Sunday morning, 30 feet of water was seen flowing near Umeta Bridge in Anklav taluka. Due to this, the water of the Mahi river in the Umeta Sim area as well as in the Bhantha Sim area including Gambhira, Kahanwadi is causing damage to vegetable cultivation near the river. As many as 26 villages in Anand district have been put on alert as water continues to be released into the Mahisagar river following heavy rains in the upper basin. Due to this, the movement of the people of villages like Ankwad, Khadol, Chamara has been stopped, water has entered the fields in the Bhatta areas of Usajya Chamara, Bamangam and Gambhira, due to which there is a fear of extensive damage to the tobacco fields and crops.
A team of officials, including the Mamlatdar, visited the villages in the low-lying areas of the river bank and was monitoring the flow of water in the river.
