US President Donald Trump has expressed his desire to become president again. During an event at the White House, Trump said that he will leave office after 8-9 years. Hearing this, the people present there started laughing, and Trump said that he was not joking. They like to work. Trump also said that his term is just the beginning and there is a lot of work to be done. Trump will turn 80 next month. He also joked about his age. "I'm not old," he said; I'm much younger than old. I still feel the same way today as I did 50 years ago," he said. Andy Ogles introduced a bill in the House of Representatives on January 23, 2025, to make Trump president for a third term. The purpose of this bill was to amend the US Constitution to pave the way for Donald Trump to become president for a third term. The resolution said that a person who has not been president for two consecutive terms can contest elections for a third term. Because Trump lost the election in 2020, he could have been qualified to be president again after this change. However, the bill could not move forward and could not even reach a vote in the House. However, changing the constitution in the United States is very difficult. It requires a two-thirds majority in both the House and Senate. In the current situation, the Republican Party does not have that majority. In addition, the consent of at least 38 out of 50 states is required to implement such a change. Currently, many states have opposition Democrat governments, so such a resolution is considered very difficult to pass. In the United States, there was no provision for a person to be president only twice. In 1951, the 22nd amendment to the Constitution was made. Under this, a rule was made that a person can become president only 2 times in the United States. However, George Washington, the first president of the United States, retired after two terms. After that, it became an informal rule for the President not to serve more than two terms. After this, this became the practice in America. None of the 31 U.S. presidents broke the practice, but it was broken in Franklin D. Roosevelt's time. He was elected President four times from 1933 to 1945. Can Trump change the Constitution? If Trump wants to run for a third term, he will have to change the US Constitution, which is not easy. For this, Trump will have to pass a bill with a two-thirds majority in both the US Senate and the House of Representatives. Trump's Republican Party doesn't have that many members in both chambers. In the Senate, Trump's Republican Party has 52 of the 100 senators. The House of Representatives has 220 members out of 435. This constitution is far short of the two-thirds majority, i.e. 67% majority. Even if Trump wins this majority, it will not be easy for him to amend the Constitution. The amendment has to be approved by the states after the bill is passed by both houses of the US Congress. For this, the constitution can be amended only after getting a majority of three-fourths of the states. That is, the rules can only be changed if 38 of the 50 US states agree to change the constitution. Trump himself has said many times that he wants to stay in power after two terms. However, experts say that if Trump does not get a third term, he may adopt other ways to stay in power. According to Hamilton College professor Philip Klinkner, Trump could become vice president in 2028 and make J.D. Vance or someone else nominal president. Putin did something similar in Russia. In addition, they can make a member of their family president so that they can maintain their control over the government behind the scenes. Putin served two consecutive terms as president of Russia from 2000 to 2008. According to Russia's constitution, he cannot become president for a third consecutive term. In such a situation, he made his close aide Dmitry Medvedev president. During this period, Putin served as vice president.
