Vadodara: Air quality deteriorates in the morning, AQI reaches 163

  • The air quality of Vadodara city has recorded a significant jump in the morning hours. Notably, the AQI was recorded at 163 at 7 am and 144 at 8 am. Winter has not yet started, there is such a situation. Now, when the number of morning walkers will increase in winter, the air of Vadodara is like a warning for the morning walkers who are out to improve their health.

There are many reasons behind the deterioration of morning air quality in the city. In which vehicles are running on the road in the morning. As a result, the dust lying on the road is remixed with the air from the tires and air flow of the vehicles. Apart from this, industrial units are located in and around Vadodara city. The toxic gases released into the air early in the morning by certain companies are equally responsible. Burning waste in the open also increases pollutants, including PM 2.5 and CO. On the other hand, the amount of PM10 is increased by the dust, construction materials, excavation and demolition dust released during work on the road.

Although the central government has recently considered road and construction dust as major sources of pollution in a document related to clean air, even today no care is taken to prevent dust from blowing into the air during the demolition of most of the structures. Mixer plants are thriving in Rajmahal Road and Nagarwada under the nose of the system. No precautions are also taken while transporting sand, disposing of construction debris. Apart from this, works have been done by the VMC in various areas, where there is the biggest problem.

The quarry dust dumped to fill potholes also plays a role in increasing pollution. There are also cries that the sweeper machines of the municipal corporation are blowing more dust instead of cleaning the dust on the roads. Not only does the removal of paper or plastic from the road clean the city, it is equally important to reduce air pollution, which is a poison for the health of the people. Bridges, drainage, storm drains, water and gas line works are going on everywhere, what is the situation there? The elected representatives from those wards do not bother to see that. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, if the AQI is within 50, it is considered good.
