Account emptied by downloading the APK file of Marriage Invitation: Rs 4.91 lakh withdrawn from bank account after receiving 19 OTP in 5 minutes, machine operator of private company trapped in the web of cyber gangsters

In Vadodara city, cyber criminals have now started using wedding rings for fraud. Clicking on the APK file sent in the name of a wedding invitation on WhatsApp made it difficult for a 56-year-old citizen. A total of Rs 4.91 lakh was withdrawn by cyber fraudsters from the bank account of a 56-year-old employee, who lived in a society on Sushen-Tarsali Ring Road in the city and worked in a private company for the last 28 years. In just 5 minutes, 19 OTPs were received on his mobile. On September 11, a file named 'Marriage Invitation.apk' appeared on the complainant's WhatsApp. Believing it to be a wedding ring, he clicked on the file, but the file did not open. Meanwhile, an acquaintance of the society informed him that another person's mobile had been hacked through a similar APK file, and Nileshbhai deleted the file from his mobile as a precaution. However, even after deleting the file, he could not escape the trap of cyber fraudsters. After this, a total of 19 OTP messages were received on his mobile continuously between 9:03 pm and 9:08 pm on September 18. At this time, Nileshbhai did not do any kind of online financial transaction. After that, between 9:45 pm and 9:56 pm, he received a call from an unknown number 8 times. While picking up the phone, an unknown person spoke in a language like Madrasi. After this call, he started receiving messages from his HDFC bank account to deduct money. The cyber gangsters withdrew a total amount of Rs 4.91 lakh from Nileshbhai's account by making 5 different transactions. Upon learning about the incident, he immediately contacted the bank and stopped the online transactions. He then lodged a complaint on the cyber crime helpline number 1930. A complaint was lodged at the Vadodara Cyber Crime Police Station and the police are investigating further.
