Customs officers have been given body-worn cameras; Whether it is the bad behaviour of the officers or the bullying of the passenger, everything will be recorded

'Sir, I have brought these 20 shoots for my personal use.' 'Buy a bottle of liquor at the airport, tax on it?' "There's nothing in the bag, why are you bothering?'" These are the cases that usually happen to passengers and customs officials at the airport on a daily basis. In which the officer is often accused of misbehaving and asking for money. On the other hand, some passengers misbehave with the officer, creating obstacles in their work. In such a situation, it becomes difficult to know who is right and who is wrong, but this will not happen now because now the customs officials are also equipped with body worn cameras. This camera will record everything from vision to clear voice. Divya Bhaskar got information about this from Customs Commissioner Shivkumar Sharma. A video of a scuffle between a woman and a head constable in Ahmedabad has gone viral. Earlier, a video of a policeman beating a woman went viral. There was a lot of controversy as to how a policeman could beat a woman like this. However, when the body-worn camera footage of the policeman came to light, people also saw the other side of the coin. In which the woman was seen throwing the policeman's I-card and hurling abuses. The video of the incident caused a huge stir. According to the law, if a police officer asks for a document, it is the duty of the citizen to produce it. Yes, it is also true that a woman is fine, but there is no law that allows the criminal to be manipulated. There is friction in every department dealing with people It's not just the police that people clash with. Such frictions occur in every department dealing with the public. There are also cases of clashes with customs officials at airports from foreigners or Indian nationals coming from outside. At such a time, it becomes difficult for the higher authorities to know what the truth is. As soon as the luggage passes through the X-ray machine, the machine immediately reports that there is something prohibited in it. So that the customs officer asks what it is or asks to open the luggage and show it. After this, in most cases, there is a scuffle that says, "There is nothing in it, you are falsely harassing" and so on. Due to which it is often difficult to understand who is at fault. Divya Bhaskar spoke to the customs staff and came to know about the complicated cases that are decreasing day by day at the airport. Sometimes, there is a conflict with the passengers who come from abroad with drone cameras. There are also clashes with passengers carrying foreign liquor bottles. In the same way, some people bring goods in commercial quantity and claim to have brought it for personal use, but as the duty is imposed according to the rules of the country, there is also a dispute with some passengers. As many as 25 customs officers have been given body-worn cameras. In order to solve many such problems, the customs department has now provided body-worn cameras to 25 customs officers on duty at Ahmedabad and Surat airports. It is also clear what conversation took place between the passenger and the customs officer. You will find out whose fault it is Any complaint regarding the behaviour of the staff such as asking for money, using abusive language, etc., can be seen in the video. So that it will be known who is at fault. If a citizen insults the uniform by forgetting his dignity, obstructs the work of the officer or makes false allegations, it will also be recorded in the camera as evidence. Customs commissioner Shivkumar Sharma says that all the customs officials who are on duty at the airport or who come in contact with the passenger. They have been given these cameras. There have been incidents in the past in which passengers said that the behaviour of the staff was not satisfactory. The response from the staff was that there was no issue from our side. However, with the installation of body-worn cameras, such an issue will now be solved immediately. He further said that the passenger says that the staff spoke loudly, but sometimes you talk normally, but the passenger does not like it, but after installing the camera, the officer will also be alert and such issues will be removed. The storage of the camera will last for 30 days. Customs officers and employees are trained In order to ensure that passengers coming from abroad do not get a wrong impression of the country, every year the customs department trains every employee and officer on duty at the airport from how to talk to the passenger and help them. However, whenever there is an issue with the passengers, the body worn camera footage will reveal the truth. Thus this use of technology will not only improve the image of the Customs Department but will also make the experience at the airport easier for honest passengers.
