In 2021, the Department of Transport had issued special number plates of the Bharat series for central government employees, but no provision has been made to sell or transfer the name of a new vehicle after purchasing it. It only has the option to correct the address. However, in the last four years in Ahmedabad, about 4,000 Bharat series vehicles have been registered in Ahmedabad. The Commissionerate of Transport was informed about the problem with the Bharat series vehicle when people took out their vehicles for sale. So far, the transport department's pole has been exposed due to non-framing of rules for the transfer from the Bharat series to the normal number plate and shifting from the normal number plate to the Bharat series. However, the transport department of the central government came to the notice of the submission, so the notification was immediately issued, but there was no fuss about when its implementation would start. Drivers with normal number plates have to pay 6 per cent tax of the vehicle once they buy the vehicle. On the other hand, people who buy a vehicle on the number plate of the Bharat series have to pay 8 percent tax of the vehicle every two years. So if someone wants to sell a vehicle or change the category of number plate, then the facility for it has not been started. The purpose was to ensure that an employee of the Centre does not have to change the number plate if he is transferred to another state.
The decision was taken to ensure that central government employees do not have to go to another state and get a new number plate for the vehicle as they are being transferred to other states. So even if the driver of the Bharat series is transferred to another state, they do not need a new number plate. They can drive in any state only on the basis of the old number. Notification issued but not implemented
An Ahmedabad RTO official said that the notification has been issued immediately after coming to the notice of the government but the facility has not been started in the portal yet. However, we do not even know when it will be implemented. A decision in this regard will be taken by the Commissionerate of Transport in the coming days.
