The Central Government has made a major change in the GST rates on Wednesday (September 03) night, which has given a big relief to the public. After the 56th meeting of the GST Council, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman informed in a press conference that now about 99 percent of the items of the 12 percent GST slab have been moved to the 5 percent tax slab. Similarly, about 90 per cent of the items in the 28 per cent GST slab have been shifted to the 18 per cent slab. But condoms have still not become cheaper.
condom already comes under the 0% tax slab under GST. That is, the government does not impose any tax on products falling in this category. Due to this, a reduction or change in the GST rate may not have a direct impact on the price of condoms. The Government of India has already put condoms in the tax-free category keeping in mind the health and public welfare. It aims to promote safe physical relationships and make family planning practices accessible to the general public
Although there is no tax oncondom, it still sometimes seems relatively expensive, as there are many reasons for this, such as the large part of condoms in India are dependent on imports. Processes such as import duty, logistics and custom clearances add to the cost. A lot of money is spent on research and quality checks while making condoms. Apart from this, the cost of packaging and safe delivery also affects the cost.
most brands spend a large amount of money on marketing, advertising and promotion of their products. This additional cost is also charged from consumers. There is a difference in prices due to different brands. Sometimes the price of premium products is kept high, due to which even ordinary condoms seem relatively expensive. If condom prices are more affordable, they can have a major positive impact on issues such as safe physical relationships and population control.
