The Delhi government will launch a web portal to collect information about PG accommodation of students in the capital. In the next 3 days, 100 places will be examined. Education Minister Ashish Sood gave this information after the second meeting of the High Powered Committee (HPC) on Thursday. Initially, the portal will be kept simple. It will record the details of the number of rooms, basic facilities and other necessary information. The committee will also study the necessary changes in the Master Plan and the DMC Act and possible concessions. On September 6, 7 people were killed when a five-storey PG building collapsed in Satya Niketan. On the other hand, between 2022 and 2025, there were 1,133 incidents of building collapses in Delhi. In this, 98 people died. The work of the committee is to frame safe rules for PGs and hostels. The HPC committee, formed after the Satya Niketan tragedy, aims to frame safe rules for PGs and hostels in Delhi. The meeting discussed measures to enhance the safety of students, amend the existing rules and implement them immediately. It was attended by representatives of all key departments including Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Delhi Police and Universities of Delhi. The sub-committee will study the feasibility of running PGs in an area of 5-6 km of major educational centres. Apart from this, running legally safe PGs in areas having group housing societies and RWAs will also be considered. October 8: 5 killed in building collapse in Delhi's Seemapuri On October 8, a four-storey building collapsed near the Eidgah fish market in Delhi's New Seemapuri area. Five people were killed in the accident. Locals told the MCD officials that the building had developed cracks after the earthquake that occurred a day earlier. They claimed that the owner was then trying to evacuate the building. However, the police have not confirmed these claims. Nearby buildings were also damaged. Two nearby buildings were also damaged as the building collapsed. The boundary wall of the nearby Eidgah was damaged. The power supply in the area was cut off after an electric pole broke and the wire was damaged. The rescue teams took the help of 4 JCB machines, ambulances and sniffer dogs to remove the debris. Narrow lanes and dense population hampered the rescue operations. The fire control received a call about the building collapse at around 3:15 pm on Wednesday.
