Former US President Donald Trump is going through the toughest test of his political career. The proceedings related to the allegations related to confidential documents recovered from Trump's private residence have been made public. It has charged him with 37 charges, including intentional possession of documents related to national security, making false statements about them and concealing the fact that there are confidential documents and obstructing the process of justice.

For the first time in American history

This is the first time in the history of the United States that such a serious federal charge has been levelled against a former president. The most serious charges against Trump could lead to up to 20 years in prison. However, the duration of the sentence in this is based on the discretion of the judges and it is rarely seen that a person has been given the maximum punishment for his first offence. Trump being a former president here could also prove to be a key factor in deciding the duration of the sentence.

What is the allegation against Donald Trump?

The 49-page charge sheet against Trump alleges that he hid these documents in his bathroom, ballroom, shower area, office, store room and bedroom. Prosecutors also said the former president ordered his lawyers to hide or destroy files to block the federal agency's FBI investigation.

Trump's aide is also accused

Trump's aide Walt Nauta has been made a co-accused in the case and six charges have been filed against him. According to the indictment, Trump asked his lawyer Nauta to keep back the box of secret documents by hiding from the eyes of the FBI and the grand jury. Where the top secret documents contain very sensitive information, which only a limited number of people have. On the other hand, those documents have been kept in secret category, which is likely to pose a serious threat to national security if leaked.

The documents contained nuclear program and military information

Donald Trump is accused of hiding secret documents in his house that contained information related to America's nuclear programs and defense and arms deals between the US and other countries. Apart from this, one of the documents stated how to respond to any attack on the US and what are the weaknesses of the US and its allies in the field of war.
