A big controversy erupted before the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation elections. In the 2021 elections, all the 41 elected corporators of the BJP showed the same expenditure of Rs 1,33,380 including pandals, snacks and DJs. Interestingly, out of the 41 corporators who showed suspicious expenses, 12 corporators have been given tickets by the state BJP in this election as well. RTI activist Santosh Singh Rathore alleges that; All the candidates showed their expense entries of 170. In which all the entries from number one to entry number 170 were the same. Not only that... As per the rules, those who are not star campaigners and if they are involved in election preparations, then all their expenses, including their travel, stay etc., are counted as the expenses of the candidates. But none of the candidates added the accounts of the expenses of these star campaigners to their expenses. Santosh Singh also alleged that despite the change of collector in five years, no concrete action has been taken on the accounts so far. The RTI activist alleged that no hearing was held after the last hearing held in December 2023.
