A very heart-wrenching and shocking incident has come to light on the famous pilgrimage site of Junagadh, Girnar Mountain. Mayur Singh, a 12-year-old resident of a migrant family, was attacked by a lion when he was on a pilgrimage to Girnar from Modaj village in Mehmedabad taluka of Kheda district. The incident, which took place in the early hours of the morning, has spread chaos in the entire diocese and the forest department as well as a police convoy have rushed to the spot. At present, normal traffic on the main staircase of Girnar has been stopped. The lion pulled the child by the arm and ran towards the forest
The boy's uncle Anil Kumar Singh Natwar Singh said that he was climbing the steps of Girnar in the morning when a lion suddenly came out of the darkness and attacked his nephew Mayur Singh Mahendra Singh from behind. The lion dragged the child by the hand and fled towards the forest which led to a huge rush and screams. Later, only the child's shoes, clothes and some body remains were recovered from the forest. He has demanded that there is no provision of lights on the staircase, due to which even if the wildlife is sitting in the dark, it is not noticeable, so the lighting should be provided immediately and a forest officer should be deployed at some distance. Barely climbing 50 steps, the lion suddenly dragged the child away
Sandeepbhai, an eyewitness and relative of the incident, said that they stayed in Girnar for the night and started climbing with 50 to 60 pilgrims at around 6.55 am. Barely climbing 50 steps, the lion suddenly came and picked up the child Mayur Singh. There is also talk among the locals that the lion has been sitting around the steps of Girnar for the last three-four days, but due to lack of light or security facilities, this major tragedy has occurred. The search for the lion has begun.
In view of the seriousness of the incident, the police have sealed off the area around the main staircase and instructed the devotees to move from the old staircase near Jatashankar to travel. On the other hand, different teams of the forest department have been formed to search for the lion and cages have also been set up around the spot to catch him. However, the local staff has been taking further intensive action since early morning with allegations that the RFO did not reach the spot for two hours after the incident.
