In West Bengal, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday (October 7, 2026) has entrusted a big responsibility in the state government to veteran actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty. CM Suvendu Adhikari has appointed Mithun Chakraborty as advisor to the rank of Cabinet Minister in the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, Government of West Bengal, with immediate effect and until further orders.
An official notification in this regard has also been issued by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms of the State Government. The notification said, ' The Governor is very happy to order that Mithun Chakraborty is appointed as an advisor to the Government of West Bengal with immediate effect and until further orders on a rank equivalent to the rank of Cabinet Minister in the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs. This notification is being issued in public interest with the approval of the competent authority.

After the appointment made by the Suvendu government, Mithun Chakraborty will now hold the status of Cabinet Minister in the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs. This department is directly under Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. This appointment has come at a time when the BJP government is trying to strengthen its focus on the cultural and film sector of Bengal.
