In Patan, two units were seized while packing oil in old tins: Rs 16.14 lakh seized, 5 samples taken, 433 tins destroyed

Raids were conducted on edible oil packing units by the Food and Drug Regulatory Authority in Patan city. Legal action has been taken against two firms for packing edible oils in old and used 15 Kg tins. In this operation, a quantity of edible oils valued at Rs. 16,14,106/- was seized. A total of 5 samples were taken during the investigation and 433 old empty tins kept for reuse were destroyed on the spot. The Food and Drugs Regulatory Authority, Patan conducted surprise inspections at the packing units of edible oils located in the city area. The investigation revealed that some of the units were repackaging edible oil in 15 kg tins used earlier. Legal action was initiated immediately by the administration for violation of food safety norms. A total of 3 samples were collected from this unit. 288 empty old tins were scrapped and destroyed at the site so that they could not be reused in future. A total of 5 food samples have been sent to the laboratory for analysis. On receipt of the report from the laboratory, further legal action will be taken under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
