Vadodara: In a similar incident, a group of villagers in Dabhoi taluka of Vadodara district on Wednesday pulled a crocodile and descended into the river with sticks to save the villagers.
Vadodara: In a short span of time, there have been more than a dozen incidents of attacks on villagers by crocodiles in Waghodia, Karjan and Vadodara talukas of Vadodara district, in which two people have died.
In one such incident today, in a similar incident in the Orsang river between Chanwada-Paragam in Dabhoi taluka, there were tense scenes when the villagers descended into the river to bathe with the crocodile to save a donkey .
At one stage, the villagers descended into the river with sticks. The forest team also came, while the help of the Vadodara Fire Brigade was also taken. However, it was late by the time the Vadodara Fire Brigade arrived. But they were not alive till then. Thus, in Vadodara district, the crocodile had one more hunt.
The villagers laid a trap and surrounded the crocodile and roamed in the river with the body.
The villagers had staked their lives to free Adhad from the crocodile. But still they could not save Adhed.
As laljibhai was pulled by the crocodile from his leg , the villagers descended into the river with sticks to release him.
On the other hand, the villagers continued to throw sticks in the water, due to which the crocodiles used to roam around with the prey. Jashu Vaghela, sub-officer of the Emergency Response Team, said, "We approached the crocodile with tools like big bamboos and axes. The villagers were of great help. We released the prey from the crocodile's mouth by pouring the cat (a tool).
In many villages of Karjan, people are not able to go across the river to the fields due to crocodiles.
Since a large number of crocodiles live in the Vishwamitri river passing through Vadodara district, crocodiles frequently come to many villages on the coast.
In Karjan and some other talukas, villagers living on the banks of the Vishwamitri river have frequent encounters with crocodiles as they have fields on the banks of the river.
The residents of villages like Pingalwada, Virjai, Sambhoi, Abhrapara in Karjan find it very difficult to cross the river during the monsoon and go to the fields.
It is because of crocodiles that bathing in Narmada has become dangerous .
Apart from the Vishwamitri river, due to the large number of crocodiles in rivers like Dhadhar and Narmada, it has become dangerous to go to the rivers.
As the crocodiles migrate during the monsoon, they remain in the village ponds
The main reason why crocodiles frequently come to residential areas is believed to be the new inflow of water and cooling down during the monsoon.
According to experts, when new water comes to the place where the crocodiles live, they migrate immediately. In addition, even if there is a flood, they come out and after the water recedes, the villages are left in ponds or drains outside.
In the winter season, crocodiles come to the shore in large numbers to take sunbaths, while late at night they come on the highway to take the heat.
