Vadodara: A drama that exposes human nature and internal contradictions

Celebrating the diversity and rich heritage of Indian theatre, the second edition of the Vadodara National Natya Mahotsav was held in the city. The dramatists were mesmerized by the performances of renowned actors and colourists at the four-day festival organized by the Faculty of Performing Arts of Parul University.

The festival was inaugurated by noted actor and theatre artist Makarand Deshpande. A play 'Manushya' written and directed by him was also presented. Focusing on human nature, identity and inner contradictions, the play brought out various aspects of the clown, philosopher and common man in a person through a character named Phadke.

Renowned actor Kumud Mishra and his team presented the understanding of life experiences and relationships with laughter in the play Purana Chawal - Purani Soch Nahi, Purana Tajurba at the festival. The story of history, valour, courage and sacrifice by Veer Gokula came alive on the stage. Apart from this, Raghubir Yadav, a well-known painter in Maargaye Gulfam, brought to life human emotions, relationships and the complexities of life with an effective performance. The four-day festival featured plays covering various themes such as introspection, humour, human relationships, history, and struggle. The festival also provided an opportunity for students and budding artists to closely understand the world of professional theatre and the art of live performance. Dr. Parul Patel, Vice Chancellor, Parul University said that theatre not only brings the audience together, but also makes them laugh, makes them think and makes them introspect about their emotions and the events around them.
