Three labourers were killed when the roof of an under-construction church collapsed in Tamil Nadu's Vellore district on Thursday. The accident took place at Mandi Krishnapuram near Katpadi. The workers were laying concrete for the roof of the church when the slab collapsed. 11 labourers were injured in the accident. They were sent to Vellore Government Medical College Hospital, Christian Medical College Hospital and a hospital in Chittoor in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. Police said that the building was being constructed for the Church of South India. At that time, the 20-foot-tall steel platform and support framework suddenly collapsed. Due to this, the labourers were buried under heavy concrete and debris. After the accident, a team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Arakkonam also reached the spot, and along with the district administration, police and fire department, rescued the workers trapped in the debris. 4 pictures of the accident...
