A 22 km stretch of NH-48 on the border of Vadodara stretches from Cantonment to Jambua. According to the data of the police department, more than 80 people have died in road accidents in this belt from 2022-23 till date. Authorities including the traffic department, RTO and national highways recently visited the stretch. During the visit, engineering changes were suggested in 4 black spots on this highway and 3 black spots in Vadodara city, including laying of nets on the road coming from Dena at Golden Chowk, placing a 50 feet high light pole under the Jambua Bridge. Now it is up to the concerned machinery to make people safe, fear-free by making these changes proposed by the traffic police. DCP (Traffic) Tejal Patel said that engineering changes have been suggested at these spots. A report in this regard has been sent to the police commissioner's office. Every day, 70,000 to 1 lakh passenger vehicles pass through
As indicated in the Road Safety Council meetings held by Vadodara Traffic Police and NHAI every year, the 22 km stretch from Cantonment to Jambua of NH-48 is a major part of the Surat-Ahmedabad Golden Corridor and hence 70 thousand to more than 1 lakh passenger vehicles pass through here daily. Below the Golden Quadrilateral Bridge: Accidents will be reduced as people stand will be closed Near the APMC Market: The cut in front of the market will be removed, 100 meters will be cut Jambua Bridge: MGVCL will close the cut and construct a 7-metre service road Below the Kapurai Bridge: The curving connecting the highway to the service road will be continuous, the bullard-board will also be installed. The divider at the Sama Canal crossroads will be closed, a new one will be built on the Atladara-Padra road.
The traffic police have found an accident zone near Sama crossroads. There is also advance planning after the construction of the bridge. According to this, after the bridge is constructed, a cut will be made before the bridge at a distance of 100 meters on this turn below it, so that two wheelers and four wheelers can go. Heavy vehicles will be able to go under the bridge. The number of traffic police will be doubled along with the installation of dividers to reduce traffic on the Atladara-Padra road in the evening. The change was suggested in the past, but the status quo remained the same.
Golden Chowk: Accidents continue as there are no nets for vehicles heading towards Halol
Kapurai Chowk (Under Bridge): Bullards were placed, but they collapsed due to heavy traffic and lack of maintenance.
Jambua Bridge: The unauthorised cuts were left open, which again caused the accident.
