Ahmedabad Civil Hospital introduces 6 new digital services for patients

Ahmedabad Civil Hospital OPD update: Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, the largest hospital in Gujarat, has taken a very important and historic decision keeping in mind the interest of the patients. With the aim of providing quick, easy and patient-friendly services to thousands of patients coming to the Civil Hospital every day, a well-rounded plan for queue management and crowd control has been implemented. The new system has been set up under the direct guidance of Shri >Rajiv Topno, Additional Chief Secretary, Health Department, and Dr. Sandhya Bhullar<

Giving more details, Dr. Rakesh Joshi, Medical Superintendent, Civil Hospital said, "Our main aim is not just to reduce queues, but to streamline the entire 'patient flow' in such a way that the patient gets accurate treatment at the right place in the shortest possible time. Proper decentralization of various services has eliminated congestion at one place."

Major improvements undertaken for patient convenience:

Increase in

OPD and Case Windows: The hospital sees 3500 to 4000 patients per day with approximate 2000 new cases. The number of case windows has been increased from 9 to 12 to save time of patients. In addition, indoor case windows, billing and report counters have been detached from OPD departments to reduce crowding<>

Token System and Seating Arrangement: Token system has now been implemented in all major OPDs like Orthopaedic, Medicine, Surgery, Dermatology, Gynaecology and Paediatrics. Comfortable seating arrangements have been made for the patients. Teams of nursing staff, security and counsellors are on standby to ensure proper compliance of the system.

Digital WhatsApp Report: Patients will no longer have to stand in queue for their report. In the next 2-3 days, a state-of-the-art digital facility to send the report directly to the registered WhatsApp number of the patients is being started.

Evening Follow-up OPD: Doctors have been specifically instructed to call follow-up patients in the evening itself to reduce the heavy rush in the morning.

Faster and Easy Billing: The number of billing counters has been increased from 1 to 2. Necessary modifications in the software have merged the Rogi Kalyan Samiti and Government charges into a single receipt, which will save 50% of the billing time. Patients will now be able to make online payments with a single access.

Radiology and Laboratory Facility: 2 new counters of radiology registration have been opened in the OPD department. Patients have been relieved from standing in queue twice as registration and billing windows are kept together. In addition, sonography of OPD patients will be done at G-2 and sonography of admitted patients will be done separately in Trauma Centre. Time has been earmarked after 2 pm for colour Doppler examination. Laboratory sample counters have been increased from 4 to 6 in old OPD and from 2 to 4 in 1200 bed hospital.

Family Medicine OPD: A separate Family Medicine OPD has been started in room no. 75 for common ailments like fever, cold and cough. This will reduce the burden on the main OPDs and provide better treatment to critical patients.

Modern signage boards are also planned to be installed in the hospital premises in the coming days to provide proper guidance to the patients. These patient-centric decisions taken by the Civil Hospital have now made health services faster, simpler and more streamlined.
