Bills are sent by the municipal corporation to the citizens to pay taxes. The work of distributing property tax bills by the corporation for the year 2026-27 is also underway. As of September 8, 2026, out of a total of 26,51,178 bills in the city, 23,73,243 bills have been distributed, i.e. 89.52% of the work has been completed. There are still 2,77,935 bills pending. The bills should reach every household in three months, but the bills have not yet reached many citizens, especially in areas including Biratnagar, Odhav, Nikol in the eastern region. Bills are yet to reach thousands of property owners: Mukesh Patel
Mukesh Patel, chairman of the revenue committee, said that the tax department of the municipal corporation has to complete the distribution of bills in three months. With about 20 days left for the distribution of bills, the bills are yet to be delivered to thousands of property owners in the city. Out of a total of 5,00,530 bills in the East Zone, 1,18,406 bills are yet to be distributed. According to the corporation, the property holders who do not get the property tax bill on time will be given enough time to pay. In case of late receipt of the bill, it will be arranged that interest will not be charged on the bill amount for a month. Now the survey will be conducted by the tax department of the corporation
Large-scale commercial activity, including food shops, food courts and lorries, is going on in private plots in the city. However, after it came to light that commercial tax was being collected only in a few places from such plots, a survey will now be conducted by the tax department of the corporation. Mukesh Patel, chairman of the revenue committee, has instructed to complete a survey and report within a month to identify all such commercial plots and evaluate them. According to the information received, most of the food courts are located in West Ahmedabad, while their number is comparatively less in East Ahmedabad. However, the department does not have the exact figures of the total number of food courts functioning in the city. The details will come out after the survey. Commercial tax is assessed from large food courts, but those food courts or other commercial activities that are left out of the tax assessment will now be traced and assessed as per the rules.
