The accused, Mohammed Farooq Khan (father) and Mohammed Habil Khan (brother), who are in police custody, are originally from Uttar Pradesh and currently live in Fatewadi, Sarkhej area. Both of them are in the business of fabrication. The deceased Sofia Khan was working as a receptionist at Nikki Hospital in Bopal. Preliminary investigation by the police revealed that some of Sofia's allegedly obscene videos and WhatsApp chats had gone viral some time ago. Her father Farooq Khan scolded her and asked her to improve, but there was no change in her behaviour. Fearing to be disgraced in society, behind the elder sister's refusal to marry and worried about the negative impact on the future of brother Habil's 4 younger daughters, the duo hatched a foolproof plan to kill Sophia

The bike was being driven by her father, Sophia was sitting in the middle and brother Habil was behind her. As soon as she reached the unpaved road of Bhaijipura-Gheljipura near Sarkhej, Habil hit Sophia on the head with an iron hammer of fabrication. Sophia fell unconscious on the ground, after which 2 more blows were given to the head to ensure that she did not stop breathing.

To make the murder an accident, they laid Sophia's body on the road and created an accident scene by hitting the bike. Brother Habil sustained minor injuries on his hands and pretended to be unconscious on the road. A rickshaw driver passing by on the road contacted the family through Habil's mobile. At 11 pm, the police received a message that there had been an accident due to a collision with an unknown vehicle and the doctors at the hospital declared Sophia dead

Initially, the traffic police registered a case of accidental death and started an investigation. On August 12, due to the rainy weather, the CCTV footage around the spot was blurred, but no other vehicle was seen in it, only the bike was seen falling and a person was seen fleeing. Discrepancies were also found in the statements of the family members. On the basis of this suspicion, the police investigated the call details (CDR) and location route and interrogated the father and son and both broke down before the police and confessed to the murder. The police have arrested both the accused in the case of honour killing, collecting scientific evidence and further investigation to find out if there is any other reason behind the murder.
