Meghtandav in Gujarat: Floods, landslides and rescue operations Heavy rains across the state have caused rivers to become muddy and flood-like situation has arisen in many areas. Heavy rains, especially in the upstream, have increased the inflow of water into the rivers, resulting in overflowing dams and the water level crossing alarming levels. Rescue of Jeev Satosat in Banaskantha Banaskantha: A youth was trapped for 16 hours in the Banas river near Amirgarh in Banaskantha district. The youth, who was trying to save his life with the help of stones, was successfully rescued by the SDRF team at the risk of his life. Locals heaved a sigh of relief after the heartbreaking rescue operation and lauded the courage of the rescue team. Rescue of 9 people in Sabarkantha Nine people, including children and women, were trapped in the stream of Sabarmati river at Khedbrahma in Sabarkantha. On being informed by the locals, the NDRF team immediately carried out a rescue operation and rescued all the nine people safely. On the other hand, 8 gates of Dharoi Dam in Mehsana have also been opened by 9.25 feet, due to which the water level of Sabarmati river is increasing. Situation in Ahmedabad and Kutch In Ahmedabad, the Sabarmati river is flowing on two banks and the riverfront walkway has also been submerged in water. Apart from this, the raudra form of Sabarmati river is also being seen in Mansa taluka of Gandhinagar. Two crocodiles have been spotted at the same time in the Papdi river near Bhirandiara village in Bhuj, Kutch. Landslides and dam overflow A landslide triggered by heavy rains on the Shamlaji-Udaipur highway in Aravalli district has resulted in road blockade. The work of clearing the road was carried out by removing the stones by the highway authority. The Moj dam in Upleta in Rajkot has overflowed again, due to which the villages of Hethwas have been alerted. Instructions have been issued not to move in the river bed.
