On the one hand, people are fond of eating sweets during the festive season in Rajkot, on the other hand, a serious incident of compromising public health has come to light in Rajkot. The customer has alleged that the insect-infested sweets are being sold at Jashoda Dairy near Pushkar Dham Chowk near University Road in the city. A video of which has also gone viral on social media has been investigated by the health department of Rajkot Municipal Corporation. Allegations of caterpillars in sweets
In the viral video, it can be seen that the sweets bought by a customer from the dairy have insects. A customer shows the shopkeeper breaking pieces of sweets in which the insect is clearly visible. The incident also led to a heated altercation between the customer and the shopkeeper. An angry customer forced the shopkeeper to pile up all the insect-laden sweets and throw them out. The customer expressed his anger at the shopkeeper's gross negligence by saying that his younger daughter had also eaten the sweets. In the video, it can also be seen that the shopkeeper himself admitted that the insect came out of the sweet and pleaded with the customer. Festivals are just the name of Rajkot Municipal Corporation!
As the festive season begins, the health department of Rajkot Municipal Corporation has started a checking drive in sweets and farsan shops across the city. However, the checking seems to be just a formality, this serious incident has exposed the functioning of the department. The health department has revealed that they have taken samples of food items from several places. But the laboratory reports of these samples will also come only after the festival is over. That is, by the time the report comes, people will have consumed adulterated or non-edible sweets of the trader. Due to lack of timely reporting, no strict action is taken against the traders who sell sub-standard food items during the festival, which is a direct victim of the general public. An inquiry was conducted by the health department
In this case, the health officer of the Municipal Corporation. Jayesh Wankani said, "We are taking continuous action to prevent adulteration in sweets. More than 40 samples have also been collected in the last few days to prevent the sale of non-food items during festivals. This video has recently come to me through social media. Jashoda Dairy will be thoroughly inspected by our team. If any items including sweets are found to be adulterated or stale, then all such food items will be destroyed on the spot and a sample will also be taken. Also, if it is proved to be adulterated, strict action will be taken against the trader. It is worth mentioning that the health department has announced that samples of food items have been taken from many places. But the laboratory reports of these samples will also come only after the festival is over. So by the time the report comes, people will have consumed adulterated or uneducated sweets from the trader. Due to lack of timely reporting, no strict action is taken against the traders who sell sub-standard food items during the festival, which is a direct victim of the general public. At that time, it has become necessary to take strict action against such traders who compromise the health of the people, not just notices and fines.
