A very tragic and heart-wrenching incident took place last night on the Nabhoi canal in Gandhinagar. Two girls working in the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation committed suicide by jumping into a canal for unknown reasons. The fire brigade team has fished out the bodies of the two girls from the Jundal canal after hours of search operation. The deceased have been identified as Sejal Jashwantbhai Patel (26, resident of Naroda, Ahmedabad) and Ripal Rakeshbhai Rawat (24, resident of Thaltej, Ahmedabad). The two girls reached the Nabhoi canal last night. Before falling into the canal, both of them called their relatives and told them that they were going to commit suicide. Panicked by the sudden call, the families rushed to the canal and informed the police. The bodies of the two girls were found in the Jundal canal.
As soon as the incident was reported, a convoy of Adalaj and Gandhinagar police rushed to the spot. It was in the darkness of the night that a team of Gandhinagar fire brigade started searching the canal. The two girls were swept away as the water flow was high and their bodies were recovered near the Jundal canal. Police have taken possession of both the bodies and shifted them to Civil Hospital for postmortem. The two girls were friends and worked together at GMC
The two girls were employed together in the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation and have a close friendship between them. However, it is not yet known why the duo took such an extreme step. The police have launched an investigation to find out if the job load, personal problems or any other reason is responsible. Adalaj PI L.D. Odedara said that the reason for the suicide is yet to be ascertained and no suicide note has been found. The two girls called home and switched off their mobile phones. Proceedings including postmortem are currently underway. According to the details, on February 6 at 8 pm, a person called the fire brigade, according to which the team left for the spot at 8.02 am after receiving information that two girls had drowned in the Koba Narmada main canal.
