Six-month extension to IPS Development Assistance: Gujarat DGP to continue for next 6 months

Gujarat DGP Vikas Sahay: The state government has taken an important decision to give an extension of six months to the present Dgp of Gujarat, IPS Vikas Sahay. Vikas Sahay, a 1989-batch IPS officer, was due to retire today (June 30, 2025), with the decision of this extension, he will continue as dgp of Gujarat for the next six months

Earlier, there were strong discussions about getting an extension of development assistance. In the past too, there have been instances of some DGP officers getting extensions in Gujarat

This extension has put an end to the speculation about who will be the new police chief of the state. The Gujarat Police Force under the leadership of Vikas Sahay will continue its operations for the next six months


All day there were discussions about the new DGP 

development assistance is due to retire today. Not only this, Gujarat Police Chief (DGP) IPS Vikas Sahay came to the office as usual on the last day of his job today, but his farewell ceremony was stalled in an unexpected situation. All preparations were completed to bid him farewell with a Guard of Honour at the Police Bhavan – The police band, decorated gypsies and officers and employees were also tied up to deliver the last address. However, the farewell ceremony had to be cancelled without any official order amid speculation of < a day-long extension>

From this afternoon, there was a buzz that the government has decided to give a 3-month extension to the development assistance. The discussion continued till late evening, for about 7 hours in the evening. Technically, vikas sahay would retire at 6:10 p.m. and his farewell ceremony would be held, but in reality he was neither given a farewell nor any letter of his extension came

Finally, the staff who had come to bid farewell to Vikas Sahay left the police building, later other officers left and in the same sequence Vikas Sahay also left the office. While leaving the office, Vikas Sahay went on to say only, "The order should be awaited."

This incident was a topic of discussion in the Gujarat Police force throughout the day. It remains to be seen when the official order on extension of development assistance is issued by the government. However, as soon as night fell, the government announced < an extension of 6 months>
