Gyan Sahayak recruitment rules 2026: The education department has made drastic changes in the rules of the 'Gyan Sahayak Yojana (Primary)', implemented to meet the shortage of teachers in government and aided primary schools in Gujarat and to provide good education to the children. Earlier the candidates could not get a school in the selected district or would be dropped out after attending, thereby adversely affecting education. To remove these difficulties, the Government has made important reforms in the recruitment procedure and service conditions by issuing a new resolution on 3rd June, 2026.>
Let's know what major changes have taken place in Knowledge Assistant Recruitment as per the new reform:
1. Major increase in age limit (40 to 48 years):
Earlier, the age of the candidate was not more than 40 years to become a Knowledge Assistant. But according to the new rule, this age limit has been increased from 8 years to 48 years. This will also give many more candidates of older age to get an opportunity to become teachers
2. Merit will not be percentile, now it will be based on actual marks:
Earlier, the merit list of candidates was prepared on the basis of percentile rank in TET-2. But now this system has changed. Now the merit list will be based on the correct marks (actual marks) obtained by the candidate in the TET-1 exam for class 1 to 5 and TET-2 for class 6 to 8<>
3. Opportunities will also be available in non-SOE (general) schools:
Previously, Knowledge Assistants could be placed only in schools under Mission Schools of Excellence (SOE). But now even in ordinary government primary schools and aided schools, if there is a vacancy or if a teacher is on leave for more than 2 months, then a knowledge assistant can be appointed there as well
4. The school allotment process is now brand new:
Only 1 district to be selected: The candidate has to select only 1 district for the job while filling up the online form.
will be called in person: After the online process, the merit list will be prepared and sent to the respective District Education Officer. Then the candidates from the district level will be called in person according to the merit and will be allowed to choose the school of their choice. The previous system of allotment in other schools has been completely abolished.
Switching toTET-1 and TET-2: If the TET-1 pass candidate in classes 1 to 5 is reduced, TET-2 pass candidate will be taken. Similarly, if TET-2 candidates are not available in classes 6 to 8, then TET-1 candidate can be allotted.
5. Provision of waiting list for the first time:
After filling up the vacancies in therecruitment process, a waiting list of the remaining candidates will also be created. In case of any vacancy due to retirement, maternity leave or transfer, candidates on the waiting list will be given a chance on a rotational basis. However, if a Knowledge Assistant has been released prior to the appearance of a permanent teacher, he will be given first preference for such vacancies<>

6. If a permanent teacher comes, the service ends:
Knowledge Assistants will be appointed on contract basis for 11 months. But if a permanent teacher is appointed before the completion of these 11 months, a teacher is transferred or a teacher who has gone on leave returns, then the knowledge assistant will be discharged immediately
All these new rules have come into force with immediate effect so that long pending vacancies in schools can be filled up quickly and systematically><
