A court has sentenced a truck driver to 2 years simple imprisonment and a fine in a case of accident that took place 4 years ago near Wadani in Saraswati taluka of Patan. The driver caused serious injury to an elderly man by driving recklessly. In this incident, Ramabhai Parambhai of Vyad village was standing on the roadside near Wadani bus station with his friend. Then a truck coming from Deesa hit him. The tyre of the truck turned on Ramabhai's left leg and he was seriously injured. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled. Seriously injured, Ramabhai was admitted to a hospital in Patan, where he had to undergo surgery and amputate the toe of his left leg. His son Shivrajbhai lodged a complaint at Vagdod police station. After the police investigation, a chargesheet was filed in the court against Thakor Takaji of Siddhpur taluka. The public prosecutor presented 8 witnesses and evidence. The owner of the truck also testified that Takaji was driving the car at the time of the accident. Saraswati court magistrate Meghaben Navdhar convicted the accused Thakor Takaji under IPC sections 279, 338 and sections 177, 134 of the Motor Vehicles Act. The court said that the benefit of probation cannot be given to a person who endangers human life by reckless driving. Therefore, he was sentenced to 2 years simple imprisonment and a fine.
