Due to heavy rains in the upper reaches of Karjan Dam in Rajpipla, 4 gates have been opened up to 2 meters. It is releasing 55,388 cusecs of water. With the release of 5.52 lakh cusecs of water into the Narmada river, the backwater has come up to Torana Dhanpore. This has caused extensive damage to the coastal fields of Hajarpura and Bhacharwada villages. The banana crop has been badly damaged due to waterlogging in the fields. Fields 8 to 10 feet have been washed away. In just three days, 30 to 40 acres of land have been damaged. According to Shankarbhai Patel of Bhacharwada village, there was no erosion of the fields despite the arrival of so much water earlier. But the release of water from the Karjan dam and the mixing of Narmada-Karjan water has started eroding the soil. Farmers have warned that if the protection wall is not built soon, another 40 to 50 acres of land may be eroded in the coming days. In such a situation, farmers may be forced to agitate.
