According to reports, 28-year-old Azam Alam Abdul Kamal lived in Sujat Khan Street near the big mosque in Randergam and used to earn his livelihood by working as a labourer. Azam had gone out of his house to bathe in the rainwater in Surat this evening. He was returning home in wet clothes after bathing in the rain. In the meantime, while climbing the iron staircase of the house, Azam was hit by a heavy current of a short circuit that landed in it. The current was so strong that Azam collapsed and screamed. Neighbour dies while trying to save friend
Azam was electrocuted and his friend Mohammed Salman Mohammed Irshad Sheikh, 43, who lives in the neighbourhood, came to know that he was struggling. As a gesture of humanity and friendship, Salman rushed to the rescue of Azam without wasting a moment. But unfortunately, as soon as Salman tried to catch or save Azam, the high-voltage current also passed through Salman's body due to his wet body. In no time, both the friends collapsed on the spot due to electrocution. Both of them lost their breath before reaching the hospital
The incident led to a massive stampede in the surrounding area and a large number of locals gathered. Locals blocked the line after a lot of struggle and rushed the duo to a nearby private hospital for immediate treatment. However, the doctors on duty at the hospital declared both of them dead before they could be brought to civil. As soon as the news of the death of two friends was received, both the families were devastated. The cries of the deceased's wife and children shook the hospital premises. My sister-in-law was also electrocuted, luckily she survived
Salman's sister said, "Salman is my younger brother. He lived in a rented house in Limbayat (Limbdipura) area. The house in which he lived was electrocuted. My sister-in-law was also electrocuted, but luckily nothing happened to her. We also have a neighbour who lives next door. Both of us have the same owner, this is their house. When the neighbour next door got electrocuted, he called Salman (my brother) and shouted 'Salman, save me'. My brother went to rescue him and he too got electrocuted," he said. The matter was complained to the landlord two to three times, but he never took the matter seriously. He would always come on time and take the rent and leave, but never asked him what was the problem in the house. "My brother died because of this lightning [current]. Now the landlord makes the excuse that lightning fell from the sky. If lightning strikes, the whole body will be burnt, whereas my brother has no scars or burn marks on his body.' 'Lightning or electrocution? The police will wait for the PM's report
The entire matter was reported to the Rander police and a police convoy rushed to the spot and the hospital. Initially, it was reported that the incident was caused by lightning, but there was also talk at the local level that the accident might have been caused by lightning due to heavy thunderstorms in the sky in the evening. According to police sources, a case of accidental death has been registered and further investigation is underway. The exact cause of death will be clear only after the postmortem report comes. The bodies of the two have been sent for post-mortem and further legal action is underway.
