The age-old drainage line between Pakwan Junction and Mansi Junction, which is considered to be the busiest and posh in Ahmedabad, frequently sits in the monsoon, causing inconvenience to locals and motorists. As the upper part of this line (Crown) is in a dilapidated condition, there was a fear of road collapse and major accidents in the future. About 1.25 to 1.50 lakh vehicles pass through this road every day, so if the pipe is dug up and replaced, the traffic would come to a standstill. In order to find a permanent solution to this problem, the municipality has decided to rehabilitate the line with foreign 'CIPP' (cured-in-place pipe) technology without digging the road. For this work, the Water Supply Committee has approved a tender of Rs. 16.22 crore, which is 32.80% less than the estimate of Vargao Specialties Pvt. Ltd. Normally, the entire road has to be dug to change the drain, which brings traffic to a standstill for months. In this technology, the work is done between only two manholes, so the traffic continues as usual. Saving up to 80% of the time: Traditional excavation, laying of new pipes, making a new asphalt road takes 4 to 6 months. In the CIPP system, the pipe inside is ready in a few days or hours. The life of the line will be increased by 40 to 50 years: The liner inserted inside the old dilapidated pipe becomes as hard as a hard stone due to heat. This new jointless pipe will last for the next 40 to 50 years. The water flow will be faster: The newly constructed pipe is as smooth as glass from the inside and does not get filled with garbage. This increases the water flow capacity and eliminates the complaint of overflow or blockage permanently. Elimination of the risk of road collapse or accident: This work gives fool-proof strength to the pipe from the inside and the chances of falling are zero.
