The state government has allocated Rs 1200 crore for the ongoing project to save Vadodara from the flood waters of Vishwamitri river. The work of the first phase is currently underway. Different projects are underway to control the floods in the Vishwamitri river every year. One of these projects was to build a buffer lake on the banks of river Surya, which has been completed in just 100 days. The buffer lake, built on 3 hectares on the banks of the Dena Surya river, will store 25 crore litres of water, which will largely control the water coming towards Vadodara city during the monsoon. It is to be noted that the Vishwamitri Flood Control Committee had suggested to build a buffer lake here which has now been completed and ready. A buffer lake is ready on the banks of river Surya on the outskirts of Dena village
Giving information about this buffer lake, Dharmik Dave, Additional City Engineer (Water Supply Department) of Vadodara Corporation Department, said that under the Vishwamitri project, it was suggested by the Flood Control Committee to build a buffer lake on the banks of the Surya river on the border of Dena village to control the flood in the Vishwamitri river. Under which a buffer lake has been created. Also read: How will Vishwamitri be revived in Rs 1,200 crore? He further said that On February 24, 2025, the work of constructing a buffer lake in 5 hectares was started. Which has been completed in the stipulated 100 days. This buffer lake was built in 3 hectares of land out of 5 hectares of land. This lake has been built 5 meters deep. Which is surrounded by 3 hectares of land. 3 Poland machines and 70 dumpers were used to build this buffer lake. This buffer lake has been created under the CSR Fund and the Government's Sujalam Sufalam Scheme. In this way, water will be stopped from reaching Vadodara.
According to Additional City Engineer (Water Supply Department) Dharmik Dave, the water released from Ajwa lake flows into the Surya river. A huge buffer lake has been built on the banks of river Surya before this Surya river meets Vishwamitri near Dena village. So the water released from The Ajwa Lake used to go to the Surya river till now and from there to Vishwamitri. Out of this, 25 crore liters of water will be stopped in this lake. He said a check dam will be constructed near this buffer lake in the coming years. There is a checkdam now. But since this checkdam has become dilapidated, a new one has to be built. The approval of which has been sought from the government. After the new checkdam, 100 percent i.e. 25 crore liters of water will be stored in this buffer lake. This time 60 percent of the water will be stored. WTP will be built at this buffer lake in the coming days. This purified water will be supplied to the eastern part of Vadodara city.
