Vadodara: Yellow Alert: Vadodara district is in turmoil

Amid the forecast of yellow alert today, Vadodara city will be open throughout the day except for morning showers. The corporation administration felt relieved, but the situation in Vadodara district became dire. Amid the rains in the district, many areas including Waghodia, Padra, Karjan, Dabhoi, Savli turned into bats as the water level of the rivers rose and water was released from the Dev dam. As a result, about 20 main roads were closed. On the other hand, 350 people, including students, who were trapped in the water, were rescued.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert today. Meanwhile, the city was open all day after scattered showers in the morning and occasionally it rained. But overall the day was dry. So the corporation breathed a sigh of relief, but the system was working where the rainwater was accumulated.

Today, Shinore taluka received two inches of rain and Dabhoi taluka received two and a half inches. Apart from that, there was sporadic rain in other talukas as well. On the other hand, the gates of the Dev Dam were opened due to the inflow of water and the water level in the Dev river increased due to the release of water. As a result, 17 villages in Waghodia and Dabhoi talukas were affected. Roads and fields were flooded. Vehicular traffic was completely stopped due to waterlogging of up to three feet on the road.

Due to the rains, the water level in the Dhadhar river, Vishwamitri river and Jambua river also increased. So many areas were turned into bats. People were disconnected. Areas of the district, including Padra, Karjan, Dabhoi, Savli, Waghodia, were flooded and about 20 roads were closed for the movement of people. The situation was worse as both the Jambua and Dev rivers pass through Pipliya village in Waghodia taluka. There was 3 to 4 feet of water on the roads. As well as a lot of areas turned into bats. The Sumandeep Vidyapeeth complex in Pipliya was also waterlogged. Around 150 students were rescued by the Vadodara Fire Brigade after the hostel was flooded. Similarly, 15 people who were stranded in Tatarpura due to overflowing water in the Dhadhar river were rescued and shifted to safer places. Similarly, 185 villagers were shifted due to the increase in the flow of Dhadhar river in Rajli and Behrampura in Dabhoi taluka. Overall, the rainwater was sweeping today. Now, the Yellow Alert is forecast for tomorrow, August 2, and during that time, the Meteorological Department has forecast moderate rainfall with thunderstorms at an average speed of 40 to 50 kmph. However, people have breathed a sigh of relief as Vadodara has been evacuated from the red alert.
