The department of geology has taken major action in Gandhinagar district. Three accused have been arrested for illegally mining sand from the restricted area of Sabarmati river. Collector Mehul K. A team of the department of geology raided the restricted Sabarmati Nadipat area of Indroda-Shahpur village. Meanwhile, three tractor owners, Ajay Jayantibhai Vanzara (r/o Indroda), have been caught illegally mining sand. These vehicles have been seized at the collector's office compound. In addition, three dumpers without royalty passes and carrying overloaded sand have also been caught from Uwarsad-Wawal Road, Shertha and Chiloda checkposts. A total of six vehicles and sand items worth around Rs 1.10 crore have been seized. Penal action will be taken against the accused under the Gujarat Mineral Rules-2017. At the same time, additional fines will be collected by measuring the pits caused by illegal excavation.
