Maheshbhai Solanki, the 42-year-old principal of a primary school in Saraswati taluka of Patan district, has consumed poisonous medicine due to the harassment of interest-seekers. Maheshbhai, who lives in Azad Chowk area of Meherwada village, had taken money from various people at high interest. Returning home after the death of his father-in-law, the interest-seekers started extorting money over the phone. The accused started charging 5 to 10 per cent interest. He also threatened to kill him. Fed up with this torture, Maheshbhai drank the poisonous medicine to kill him. He has been rushed to the hospital for immediate treatment. Unjha police have registered a case against the six accused on the basis of Maheshbhai's statement. The accused have been identified as Hasmukhbhai Prajapati of Mehsana, Kailashben Makwana and Nileshbhai Jadav of Patan. Taljabhai Desai of Dharpur-Patan, Ajitbhai Thakor of Dethali village in Siddhpur taluka and Pareshbhai Rabari of Gaglashan are also among the accused. Police have launched an investigation.
