A special drive conducted by the Prevention of Crime Branch (PCB) to curb liquor activities in Vadodara city has yielded great success. Police have seized a consignment of foreign liquor illegally from a Tata Punch car near Ambika Canteen near the third bridge of Vishwamitri river on Vadsar Road. In this case, a man originally from Kerala and now living in the Gorwa area was arrested. Goods worth more than Rs 7 lakh have been seized. On the basis of intelligence inputs, a watch was set up and the raid was carried out.
The PCB police staff were patrolling in Susan Circle and Makarpura Road area when they received specific information that Smijith Gopal Nair, a native of Kerala and a resident of Shiv Bhakti Flat in Gorwa, was standing near the Vadsar bridge in his white Tata Punch car with a quantity of liquor. On the basis of this information, the police conducted a raid with two punches and did not find any valid pass-permit or evidence related to liquor from the driver. The liquor was found under the trunk and seat of the car
The police searched the trunk and rear seat of the car and found a quantity of foreign liquor worth Rs 1,89,408, which was allowed for sale in Haryana. The PCB team has seized foreign liquor, Tata Punch cars and other contraband worth more than Rs 7 lakh.
