The Rojmadar Employees' Union of Veraval Patan Joint Municipality has made a written representation to the municipal commissioner and chief officer. The union has demanded resolution of issues pending for years. According to the Daily Wage Employees Union, despite several written and oral representations, no proper response has been received. There are about 600 daily wage workers working in the municipality. Their main demands include disposal of ongoing cases in labour courts and high courts and equal pay for equal work. The union has demanded that the daily wage workers working for 20-25 years be made permanent. At the same time, there is a demand to make fixed salaried employees permanent for the last 18 years. It has also demanded inclusion of daily wage workers on vacant posts and not to re-employ retired employees. Kishan Chomal, president of the Daily Wage Employees Association, said the municipality recruits new employees at a higher salary through outsourcing. While injustice is being done to the daily wage workers who have been working at low salaries for years. In the current inflation, the employees have appealed for an immediate settlement of their demands so that they can sustain their families.
