'This is your sin, BJP #$@': Bottle of Surtis trapped in floods burst, BJP workers chased away by locals

Due to incessant and heavy rains in Surat city and district for the last two days, the local creeks have overflowed. Several societies in Seemada and Sarthana areas have been submerged in flood waters for the last 24 hours as the water of the Seemada creek has been diverted to residential areas. In the midst of this dire situation, there is a power outage, gas supply is cut off and there is a shortage of food items in homes. At that time, the workers of the ruling party BJP, who had come to the aid, also had to face the wrath of the people. The locals knocked them out. People are angry when they hear that they are BJP corporator's men. Some people were coming with water bottles in a JCB at Brajbhoomi Sector One. So they were stopped by the residents. When asked, he said, "We are BJP corporators. This led to anger among the residents present there. "Where have you been even after 24 hours? We don't have drinking water, we don't have food and you guys come after 24 hours. 'This is your sin, BJP's #$@' BJP workers did not have any kind of answer when asked about the drainage of water. So the residents said, 'This is your sin. BJP's....... People also used abusive words. At the same time, more anger erupted when it was found that the food packet was kept in the JCB and the food packet was taken and looted. The BJP workers then had to face protests from the residents and fled from there. 'Flood-like and dire situation' Lataben, a local resident, said, "I live in the Seemada village area of Surat. The geographical condition of our area is such that even if there is normal or little rainfall, it gets waterlogged in a very large quantity. Since yesterday, there has been a very serious and bad situation like floods here. 'We don't even have clothes left' Yesterday, July 7, around 4 pm to 5 pm, the area started waterlogging. We were trying to remove our belongings from the house when the flood waters rushed in. In no time, our entire house was submerged in water. All the valuables in the house, including LED TVs, fridges, washing machines and cupboards, have been submerged in water. The situation has deteriorated to such an extent that we are not even left with clothes to wear. Since this morning, we have been looking for shelter in the midst of these waters without tea, water or food. 'Seemada village is submerged in water every time' We have been living in this area for the last 6-7 years and I have noticed that every year we have to face similar hardships in the monsoon. This problem of waterlogging has become permanent here as it is a low lying area. If the problem is limited to the road or the street, then the administration can rectify it, but this entire border village is submerged in water every time. What can anyone do against this geopolitical situation? 'I was forced to take shelter in the school at night' The flood waters were so high that the entire first floor of the houses was submerged in water. In order to save lives in such a dire situation, around 10 pm last night, we opened the shutter of a nearby school and took shelter there. We were accompanied by 10 people, including young boys and girls, who spent the whole night at the school. In the morning, when we saw that everything was washed away, there was nothing left in the house. 'I don't get a satisfactory answer on the phone' Tushar Nakarani said, "I live in the Brajbhoomi Sector-1 area near Sarthana Jakatnaka. Since 9:30 a.m. yesterday, July 7, the creek has been flooded in our area. There is no system for this water drainage. None of the officials or employees of the Surat Municipal Corporation have come here to arrange for drainage of water. We have been continuously calling since 8 am, but there is no satisfactory response from the administration. Every hour, they just say that they are sending boats and arranging for water. 'No one has come to ask' There has been no electricity in our area since last night and there is no drinking water facility. Drinking water bottles were brought here only at 4 p.m., but even that is not distributed properly. Some people get water and some people don't. There are small children in their homes and there is a shortage of necessities, yet no one has come to ask what the citizens are facing. 'Neither the corporators nor the workers have been bothered' So far, no MLA, corporator or activist from our area has even visited here. When there is an election to the municipal corporation or any other party, people from all parties, including the Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP, come running saying 'vote for us, vote for us'. We believe in you and win you over, but after winning you only see you. 'In government offices, you only enjoy parties' Tushar Nakarani further said, "You people only enjoy parties by sitting in AC cars and offices in major government offices. You don't care what the common man is bothered by in any situation. People go to hell, no one is ready to come here to see the situation. We are responsible citizens of this city and pay taxes regularly. All the officials of the administration and the SMC should remember that their salary comes from the tax money of the people's sweat. 'Proper compensation for the losses' Today, the situation is such that water has entered the houses of the common people, the livelihood of the people has been disrupted and the food and groceries kept in the house have been soaked and spoiled. Even in such a difficult situation, no proper assistance or disposal arrangements have been made by the system. We want to ask the higher authorities what will you do if water enters your own houses in the same way and your food grains are washed away? What action will you take against him? It is condemnable that the system is giving priority to other things apart from the problems of the common man. Our demand is that the problems of the public should be resolved immediately and proper compensation should be given for the losses. 'Fear of an outbreak of the pandemic' "There are around 800 to 900 flats in both sectors 1 and 2 of the society. At present, there is flood water, but so far no arrangements have been made by the administration for drinking water or food packets. The students who went to school or college yesterday morning have not been able to return to their homes yet. Children are the future of the country, but right now young children are in trouble in the midst of these waters and there is a great fear of an epidemic outbreak going forward. 'They come to seek votes at the time of elections, leaders disappear in disaster' Whenever elections are approaching and votes are to be sought, leaders come to every household and make tall promises that 'we will do this work for yours, we will do that work'. Now is the time to act? Leaders have to come to the rescue only when such a disaster strikes and people are in trouble. If the leaders disappear right now, where will the young children, the elderly and women go? There is no facility of water or food packets here. If no arrangements are made by the administration or leaders at the earliest in the coming days, then all the people of the society will come together and give a befitting reply in the forthcoming elections. 'Houses were flooded with two feet of water' Upendrabhai said, "I live in Shantiniketan Society. The flood situation here is very bad. The water started coming slowly from 2.30 pm yesterday, but after 6:30 pm to 7 pm, the situation worsened and houses were also flooded with two feet of water. The waters have not receded yet. At present, the situation here is very pathetic. No food or drink can be arranged. At present, people are spending their days only on snacks or whatever dry food they get. This is a natural disaster, not a personal problem. In such difficult times, people only hope for help from the government machinery. The administration should come forward and help the people in such a situation, but so far we have not received any help from the administration or any leader, nor has anyone even peeped here. 'People should act according to their understanding' Maheshbhai Vaghani (Michael), a social worker, said, "Suddenly 15 to 20 inches of heavy rain has fallen in our area. Due to such heavy rains, there is a possibility of waterlogging and submergence not only in Surat but also in any developed area. He appeals to all the townspeople of Seemada, Sarthana and other areas with folded hands to work according to their wisdom and understanding in this difficult time. The administration and the government are working their own, so citizens should also cooperate with the system. They assert that we have thousands of hands in front of the system, that is, the power of the people is huge. He also makes a humble appeal to the government and the administration to take mitigating steps to drain out the flood waters immediately as the rains have stopped or have receded since yesterday. He and his team are extending all possible help to the societies in their own way. They are delivering milk bottles, drinking water and other household essentials to young children on tractors. Their main aim is to ensure that the lamp in no one's house goes out (no one gets into trouble) in this disaster. In conclusion, he gives the message that in these difficult times, every capable citizen should come forward and voluntarily help people, and this should be the duty of every citizen.
