Vadodara: Pan-masala worth Rs 43.98 lakh seized from Sampa-Bodka

The Vadodara Rural LCB has seized an illegal pan masala-saffron jarda worth Rs 46.98 lakh being illegally transported to Godhra in an Ashok Lellon truck from National Highway 4 passing through the border of Sampa-Bodka village in Karjan taluka. The police have recovered a mobile phone and a truck and arrested the truck driver with a total of Rs 57 lakh and registered a case at Karjan police station.

The district LCB team was patrolling in the Karjan area. In the meantime, an Ashok Leyland Company's white tarpaulin truck No. GJ-01-JT-6427 is going to Vadodara from Surat on National Express-4 with suspicious goods. That information was received. On the basis of this, the LCB personnel stopped the truck on the side of the road coming near the bridge of Sapa-Bodka village on the track from Surat to Vadodara and asked the driver his name and told him that his name was Narayan Mawaji Meena (35 of Balecha village, Thana. When asked about the goods loaded in the truck, he told the police that the truck was full of packets of pan masala and tobacco and that he did not have the bill bill and the necessary proof of the loaded goods.

On further interrogation, the driver, my Sheth Mustaf (resident of Modasa), sent me to fill pan masala and tobacco from a godown at Sawai Madhopur near Ranthambore Fort in Rajasthan. From there, I was asked to be taken to Surat. When I reached Surat with this goods, my boss fanned me and told me not to vacate the Surat goods. The consignment is to be emptied at Godhra. So I used to take a truck to Godhra from NE-4.
